When you stuff a GP to the floor, it takes a moment, kinda bogs then downshifts and heads on down the road. It's not quite a perfect as say an old carb based motor with a true kick down cable that got the trans to downshift before the power kicked in. This is why manually downshifting if you plan on giving it a good blast on the highway is recommended. The 4th clutch hub in the 97-03's are weak and would usually suffer a failure when kicked at higher miles.

He's saying that you may or may not be able to scan in real time; depending on the type of scanner.
Our 3800's are computer controlled therebye causing delayed down shifts - nature of the beast.
The tangential iteration about the 4th clutch hub is just Bill thinking out loud.

I would say that your only options are to either get it scanned in real time or start swapping parts until you hit the jackpot. It's difficult to diagnose without scan data and no DTC's.

Me? I would just bite the bullet and get it scanned.

Not at all. I'm saying the computer gives you power slightly before it downshifts the trans for you. Therefore it's normal that you feel it bog for a second before downshifting.

Actually I don't care much if he can scan or not. That's his issue Because of of the computer control, yes there's a delay. The tangent is always key when you let someone know how they can prolong the ability to use 4th gear.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
