I have less than 15,000 miles on a rebuilt tranny (new 4th gear hub, solenoid, etc.) and recently it started acting up. It wants to downshift occasionally while the cruise control is on driving on flat ground, and today it shut off while shifting from reverse to drive, but it started right up and worked fine. Any help on where to start would be appreciated. I'm hoping I don't need to drop over $1000 again to rebuild something that will break.

Doesn't sound transmission related to me.

Seems a bit more ignition related. When was the last tune up etc on the car. What is the condition of the motor overall? Downshifting in cruise and or under your foot is based on throttle percentage and load etc. Unless there's more that I'm not reading into, ... more info please, if you kept it short.

Gut says it's probably nto the trans though.

Had it happen to me again today. I was driving through town going up a hill at about 30 and it kept jerking and feeling like it was trying to downshift. Fluid level is good. Any ideas on where to start?

Under low rpm, high load.. I'd still consider ignition related.

    what plugs are you running
    What wires are you running
    Approx age on both?

Bill, possible to be an issue with tps? I've seen cruise that won't stay on being a problem with a tune before, too.

Is there any issue when not using cruise control?
Irridium spark plugs last 100k mi and work just as well as copper. Copper is a waste on N/A and only lasts 15k mi. Don't use Platinum.
Use 195* tstat unless you can thoroughly explain why not; 99.9% don't need a lower temp.
Almost any oil filter, ever, is of higher quality than ACDelco. Spend $6+.
