For S & G, try cleaning the ground wire connectors to the frame on both the driver's and passenger side. I've had some similar issues that were fixed by doing this. The electronics and sensors in the w body are very sensitive to poor grounds.
It's worth a shot if it will band aid the problem until it's fixed; free is good.

Well...my trans is toast. Took off for work yesterday and got about 5 miles from home when I heard the trans oil pumb go full pressure, seconds later the SES light came on and then it started to slip. I managed to turn around without stopping and limped home in like first gear and an occasional lock-up. Got me all the way to the driveway and I thought. "let me try reverse in case it's gone and I won't be able to get it towed out..." Stopped, tried reverse and nothing... put it back into drive, nothing! So I let 'er roll to the side of the road. Later, when AAA was coming, I started her up and sure enough, it moved off like nothing had happened! I got it positioned for the tow truck and shut 'er down. :-( Shop called, trans is toast, full rebuild time. 146,000 miles with autocrossing and "serveral" low 13 sec passes down the 1320....I guess she served me well.
Thanks for your help all!

as far as the loosing all gears and then getting them back the next fay that is the same thing that happend to me....i could loose all gears shut the car off then start it back up a minute or two later and it would drive...it would be slipping under hard throttle...but it would drive.

Back on the road again...a LOT lighter in the wallet but running. I had asked the shop to save my parts so I could see what had happened to my trans, which they did. It was mostly a case of wear and tear. There was no "smoking gun" part that was the cause, just lots of metal dust in the pan and filter. The tech said that it's most likely that this dust jammed one or more of the plungers or other small moving bits causing fluid to go where it wasn't supposed to. This can cause quick clutch failures as well as other damage. Fortunately mine didn't grenade and just gave it up quietly.
Anyway, back on the road and still happy with my GTP!
