Hello Guys, I have a 99 GP GT the motor is locked up and the trans was already going bad, I have a donor car I got and I was wanting to know since I am taking the motor and trans out of one and putting in the other would it be easier for me to drop the whole subframe out in stead of unbolting everything and lifting it out, just trying to get some opinions on the easiest way, the donor car is wreaked in back end, no damage up front. If I was to drop the subframe out complete, what needs to be unhooked other than the wiring and steering, and can I just use floor jacks to lower once I have it up secure on stands, any advice/help would be much appreciated, Thanks Larry

Not to shabby with these cars yet learning quickly though but I would have to agree with the post above. I've been inspecting my GF's car and I to would pull it all out as one chunk through the top. Pull the hood off, place the car on JS apply parking brake, and use a cherry picker or overhead hoist to remove it if your a shade tree mech like myself. Judging by the looks of the engine bay there's not much to pulling it other than unplugging wires and turning wrenches just remove the serpentine belt and leave the A/C intact. JMO

It's honestly one of the easiest engines to pull. Basic hand tools and you can have it out in 2 to 3 hours.

Actually need to replace my oil pan and I may just pull the engine again rather than trying to just drop the side of the sub frame.
    No More GTP for me.

I pulled the motor and trans from my 00 GT out the top. Piece of cake. Remove hood, disconnect A/C lines at the accumulator, disconnect the 2 fuel lines and GENTLY move them out of the way (they are plastic lines and WILL break if moved/bent too much), disconnect elec. harness from all the sensors on the engine and whatnot and flop that onto the windshield. No need to remove the serpentine belt as it does not route through the motor mount like on the older cars. Once there unbolt the exhaust at both manifolds (removing the front one altogether will free up some space. I removed my fan and rad. as well just to make sure nothing got damaged), remove the axles from the tranny, unbolt 4 nuts holding the motor mount and trans mount to the subframe and pull away! I used the 2 factory hooks that are installed on it. One is on the pass. side rear near the alt. and the other on the drivers front manifold.

Watch the drivers side area when pulling, as the motor/trans may tend to swing that direction and screw up the master cylinder/ABS stuff. Just go slow and steady. It will come out.
