Has anyone lifted the engine and trans out while they are still bolted together? Are there any clearance issues? Any help would be appreciated.

I would drop the subframe if you are taking both out.

I dont have access to a hoist since the local DIY shop closed, and I cant jack it up high enough to drop the subframe, and get the motor out, so i guess ill try to pull it through the top. Thanks for the info.

    Reviving this thread....
I have a 98 and 99 Grand Prix GT and want to hoist the engine and transmission bolted together from the top and drop in the other car without dropping sub frame. This seems like a simpler approach to swapping both engine and transmission together. Anyone with knowledge or experience on this?
