I was talking with a friend of mine about putting in a tranny cooler. Can anyone tell me what size and kind to put in? Thanks

depends on where you live
i have the desert fox kit from 3800performance.com, its a very nice kit. It uses a b&m cooler and heavy duty lines. Summer heat around here in jersey at times will be a scorcher, around 90-100 at times. Without the cooler, in summer heat, in traffic, i was getting temps around 200-210 (when the fluid breaks down), then the trans would start slipping. Even driving around just cruising down the highway, if i did more than 1 pull, the temps would instantly jump from 170-195.
With the desert fox kit, temps stay around 150-165 range, and you can do a countless amount of pulls before you hit 190 (all in summer heat)
In the winter it sucks, takes forever for the trans to warm up for tc lockup, which is around 80*. Driving around for hours in the city, most ill see is 120*
Get a GM W-body cooler which is designed for our car
Here's the list of parts you need
10275682 - W Body Auxillary Transmission Cooler - 10275682
but buy it from gmpartsdirect.com as it should be cheaper
I bought my kit last year and it cost $99.99 or so through pfyc.com which I think I got the last one.
unless you live somewhere real hot there is no reason for it. i beat the crap out of my car and my transmission stayed cool all the time. the guy tuning my car was surprised how cool it stayed for how much we were beating on it.
I run a B&M super cooler.
I plumbed it directly into my transmission, and sealed off the ports to the radiator with some screw in plugs.
It stays around 175 to 180, even on 100+ degree days. If I am hard on it, which I have been, I have only seen it climb as high as 190. Before the cooler, it was well above 200* all the time, when I would get hard on it then, I could peg the temp. gauge.
I installed this cooler back in 2001, still running great, not a leak, or a drip from any of my fittings. The lines i used were stainless steel braided fuel lines I bought through Summit Racing as well.
Sometimes it is needed to run one, sometimes it is not.
But keep this in mind, the cooler it can operate, the better of your are. The transmission fluid will not over heat, and break down as fast, causing premature wear on your parts inside. You can extend the life of your transmission fluid, as well as the life of your transmission.

B&M #70268 seems to be better than the OME part.
B&M 70264 - B&M SuperCooler Oil Coolers - Overview - SummitRacing.com
The 70264 is what I have.
Normally you want to buy one based on the GVW, and the buy one bigger than you need. The 70264 is over kill enough as it is for our Grand Prix's.
