My 2000 Grand Prix GT automatic trans does not shift into 4th gear. Dealer is telling my that the entire trans needs replacing. Has anyone encountered this and been able to fix it without replacing the trans?
Thanks.

Hi Newguy
Many have. Usually this is the 4th clutch hub shaft stripping out. To get to it, much of the transmission needs to come apart which facilitates the rebuild while being that deep.
thanks for the reply. any idea of a cost range? Just dont want to get ripped off.
trans rebuild at shop usually runs around $2500
There's plenty of options which is why I usually don't tell people numbers
Local shop rebuild (basic)
TripleEdgePerformance (all the updates and goodies at a great price)
Car-part.com or a trans from here (used)
