I took my car in the shop and they tell me the my 2nd and 3rd plate or something like that are bad and they will fix it, but they said it would be a minimum of $1300. I know nothing about trannys so is this reasonable? Should I get a used tranny and replace it? I looked to MMS and they have trannys for $400. The car is a 2003 GP 3.1 motor.

I looked at there page but thats all so confusing to me. I seriously know nothing about trannys. I meen that leteraly too. They help make me go thats about all I know.

well the problem is I could be at a stop and try to go but the rpms go to about 2000 then finally kick into gaer pretty hard or this also happens if im slowing down for a red light then it turns green so I hit the gas then it shifts hard. could do it for a couple days then quit for 2 or 3 weeks.

yeah I know I just have a hard time with paying $1300 for a couple parts on a stock tranny. I know people say look at trannymans website (Which I did) but none of any of that makes sense to me

$1300 is a hard chunk to swallow to fix a transmission but not rebuild the complete thing. I sell complete standard remans for that price and it includes everything. Them telling you that much money may not be all that expensive from a repair shops point of view, but to the consumer its a lot of money no doubt and also even though you just spent all of that money to fix on old problem a NEW problem could pop up a week later and they wont guarantee it or fix it for free and will charge you all over again. On my info page I do have a section about neuraling at a stop light but if you mention you dont know anything about the trans then it isnt going to make much sense.

What kind of shop is looking at your car? Is it the dealer or a normal repair shop or trans shop? To me that is a large amount for just a repair but again some shops are going to charge prices like that and it is just how the repair/service market works. If it was me I would just opt for a rebuild trans from a reputable shop, its not going to be much if any more many and it will provide you with a warranty to cover the entire trans, not just what was repaired and leave you on your own if any other problems pop up.

its a local trans shop. I guess like I said earlier if it was a total rebuild I would be more ok with it.

seems steep for parts swap, I had my whole trans done (only the outer casing is original ) for $2500 with labor, and that may have been a bit high

My next trans is comming from a local shop here in florida called chet and micks they priced me a stock rebuild out the door 800 bucks. and berger if your near the ky border I have a tranny builder there who's one of the best and who would treat you right pm me for his info if your close to him.. thanks man

1300 to rebuild your transmission is dirt cheap. We charge 1495 installed and that only includes a rebuild kit, shift kit, electronics, torque converter, and fluid. So if they are doing it for 1300 out the door jump on it as long as it comes with a warranty for parts and labor of at least 12 months.
