Thread: Transmission Coolers for the Middle East

Hello guys!

I'm shipping my 2000 GTP to the middle east when I leave in a month and I reckon I will need a transmission cooler since you lot use them here in Arizona, and it gets way hotter in Dubai! I wanted a transmission cooler that offers the best mixture of performance and ease of install, and need your recommendations.

Aim to the largest, best core you can fins and then consider adding a temp controlled fan on top of it.

Excellent. I shall commence doing research, but can you point me to a particular product so I can start from there?

It's definitely not the best cooler, but works very well and is probably the easiest to install and is pretty cheap too.



You can spend $400 + on a really nice trans cooler so you need to be a bit more specific on cost.

Its a nice unit, but its hard to justify something thats 3 times the prices for about 1/3 better performance.

The Desert Fox unit comes with A/N fittings, barbs, hoses, custom brackets for the GP, and it is a stacked plate type rather than a tube.

If you get the hayden you still need to purchase fittings, nylon coated hoses (unless you like the ****ty rubber ones), barbs, and A/N fittings.

With the DF cooler, you get directions and you only need to get a quart of fluid, makes it a little easier.

My temps don't go above 180* on a 100* day in stop and go traffic (even with a shattered 4th). When im cruising at a steady speed, I can watch the temps go down.

1/3 performance gain? I don't know about that.

I'm thinking about a desert fox myself in the future. Seems like a real nice unit, plus it should fit behind my FMHE...

Hmm. Desert fox DOES look good. Heavy price but probably worth it .

I agree the Desert Fox unit is nice. Their is still a flaw with that cooler, your running through the stock radiator. If I was going to spend $250 on transmission cooler, I'd run a full stand alone trans cooler. Why spend $250 when theirs been numerous people that have their radiators core leak water into the trans fluid and their goes your transmission. Or at the very least get rid of the flexible lines and run hard lines (stainless, aluminum, steel) are all better alternatives and can be done for cheap.

It all comes down to price. That Desert fox unit is over priced for what it offers.

If you looked at the link I supplied and looked the kit PFYC sells, this is the exact kit GM recommends for a bolt in solution for $90. Its rated at roughly 20,000 GVW, while the Desert Fox kit is rated for 28,000 GVW. That would account for less than a 1/3 performance increase. Those numbers while not always accurate to the "T" gives you a rough idea of the cooling ability.
