So I just had my trans take its final drive today known for about a month it was going out. I pretty much decided I’m going to attempt an in vehicle rebuild since I don’t have a lift or a good enough jack to get my car off the ground to completely drop the subframe out. I watched the videos on YouTube of the guy who did an in car rebuild on an 03 impala and it seems simple enough. The problem im running into is what kit of parts I would need to buy for an in car rebuild? I know it’s not the ideal method to rebuild it but it’s what will work best for me for my set of circumstances.

You're probably going to want a "Master Kit" That will include pretty much everything perishable minus the bushings and washers. Be sure that the kit you get includes the molded pistons and bands. Don't throw away the side cover gasket. It's reusable and I don't think it's included in any kit. If you still have the factory molded pan gasket, keep that too. It's better than cork or flimsy rubber.
I see you're in Arizona. It's cool right now so you can probably use vaseline to hold/stick things together, but once it warms up you're going to have to step up to some high tack trans gel.

I figured I would use assembly lube to stick things together but yes it’s nice out here in az right now to do the work. I was looks on rock auto for a kit so I’ll see if I see a “master kit” listed there

I'm mistaken. To get it all in one box you need a Deluxe kit.

This is the best manual I've ever found. You can watch it and pause it along the way and it holds your hand for you. Best money I ever spent on Ebay. STOCK DVD VIDEO TRANSMISSION REBUILD OVERHAUL MANUAL 4T65E-HD 4T65E 4T65-E TRANS | eBay
In addition to the rebuilt kit, wouldn't be a bad idea for a shift kit and make sure to check the chain. The video steps you through all checks. You will need some specialized tools. I got away with a basic ebay clutch spring compressor with a few wood clamps for when it was too short. Please don't reuse your torque converter as tempting as it looks. Use dex VI when re-filling, and other than that, the video goes over all the rest!
If you have specific questions. Between Bill, Brandon and I, we've probably done over 100 of these, so feel free to ask! Good luck!

x2 on the shift kit. Superior also makes some nice valve body goodies. All depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go.
I forgot to mention a hardened 4th clutch hub. Yours being a '98, it probably still has the soft spline version.
That DVD is pretty good. It shows you some different ways to do things if you don't have the special tools. I think it's also worth acquiring the ATSG manual. Those two together paint a really clear picture.
Click the link in my sig for a walkthrough (not tutorial or how to) of a high performance 4t65e build.

So I started watching the video after it got here on Tuesday and Ive decided I will just fully remove the trans from the sub-frame and engine to do the rebuild the correct way.
I found this kit on rock auto and seems like it should be fine. Any opinions whether this is good or not? I have had pretty good luck with them in the past doing engine rebuilds.

Raybestos steels, Borg Warner frictions and Trans-Tec seals. It's good stuff.
