Trying to figure out what this noise is. I thought it was valve train noise but does not sound like it. Noise does not change putting in drive.

Does it change if you rev the motor in park?

Thinking of how things work.. the only part of the trans turning at idle like that is the torque converter. It kinda seems like the flex plate may be cracked. Or the bolts to the converter are loose.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I looked at the flex plate with it on the car. I can not see any cracks. The torque converter bolts are tight.

Here is a video of it revving.

when the flex plate cracks its not the outer edge, its the middle around the crank, really hard to see.

you take the sc belt off and run the engine yet? you know to rule it out.

if your sure its coming from the bell housing, unbolt the tc from the flex put the starter back in and fire it up. you should be able to pry /push the tc off the flex plate a bit so its not scraping as it spins.

if the sounds gone you know its flex or tranny.

iirc ive also heard if you bang on it it should ring, when broken they dont ring. not 100% sure on that tho.

I unbolted the torque converter from the flex plate noise did not change. What ever it is I think its making the flex plate make noise. Probably not a bad flex plate. When i video it the phone picks up more noise by the trans.
It could be the phone. In person that noise is not as loud but you here it.

If you unbolted flex from converter and still got the noise, then it's most likely the flex. I can't think of anything else that would make that racket.

If it is the flex plate i would think the noise should change putting it in gear.

I here the noise mainly at the front timing cover and at the trans.
