Thread: Slipping issue/ rebuild?

Just bought a 2003 aztek for $400 with a bad transmission. It was rebuilt by certified transmissions three years ago and it will upshift fine, but once you remove your foot from the gas, it completely disengages like it's in neutral. Once you come to a stop, it will engage again until you let off the gas again. Haven't dropped the filter yet but my guess is the torque converter which requires a full rebuild. Just wondering if anyone has come across this issue on a new rebuild. Only codes are rear o2 sensor and oil pressure switch which should be unrelated. There is some electronic issues associated with the bcm but shouldn't affect the transmission. Any advice is appreciated!

BTW:BPP switch zero calibration is in the BCM. Could be your problem.

Hm. Noob question, but why would the brake switch cause it to drop into neutral while driving? Thanks for the advice though. I'm taking it to the dealer to get the bcm reprogrammed, would this accomplish this too?

Other question that you might know. In order to write the bcm or pcm software and/or vin file, do you need access to gm's online database, or just the tech 2 and a computer with the software?

Sweet! lol I figured so... Not about to pay $150 for two days access and $300+ on the scanner just to use it once when the dealer charges $100. I'll post next week when I have it done!

Yeah. You're right on the money about hptuners not supporting azteks. I hope the pcm is ok, but with the other electrical issues, it's hard to say...

Well, interesting turn of events. I finally had time to test out the tek fully and immediately noticed it took a while for the issue to start, and when it did, the speedometer plummeted to zero. I hooked up my scanner, and no codes. Charted the data when it happened, and sure enough even the pcm was reading zero when the problem occurred. Replaced the speed sensor and nothing happened. Tested the wires and got a high resistance to the pcm. Replaced the wires all the way back from the pcm and voila! Still have LOADS of other issues with the tek, but I was able to drive it 12 miles from my friend's house back to mine! Next, figure out why the radiator fan isn't coming on... but hey, for $400 clean title 173,000 miles, I'm not going to complain one bit! Plus, I just went skydiving for the first time so I'm really happy today!

We'll see what happens. My wife's happy and I didn't have to rebuild a transmission, so I'm VERY happy! I'll post what happens
