Is it just pasty goo (like anti-seize), or is there grit and chunks (like coffee grounds)?

Seemed like clutch material at least partially. Some flakes nothing else really. Mainly that goo

Its getting new fluid, filter today and then test drove. Hopefully it'll shift now not too much faith because i've always had bad luck with transmissions going out

Not necessarily. It does explain your sticking valve though. Button it up and see what she does.

New fluid is getting added now. And yeah, exactly what I was thinking. Probably normal clutch wear and since there wasn't a filter it got stuck and messed the solenoid up.

Probably will want to drain and replace the filter in a few thousand miles. Who knows how much gunk will be knocked loose with the new fluid.

Still throwing the p0756 code and not shifting.
All solenoids replaced and fresh fluid and a filter.

Guess we'll be redoing it and takeming valve body off to clean it.

As a last ditch effort, I'd try driving it a little more. Rowing through the gears, different loads and speeds. There's a remote chance the valve might free up once that new clean fluid pushes through.

I'm hoping but where its been worked on at it'll be hard to get it to the main road (has basically rained non stop this week here in wv) making the drive way a mud pit from hell.

Might as well give it a shot. If I can get it to work I'll certainly change filter out within 1k miles to finish getting the junk out. Still amazes me how dumb someone could be to not install a transmission filter, granted we should've checked before getting the car off the lot but that's not a normal thing to check.

Sooooo hereso what I believed has happened.

Lkq is a recyclers not a rebuild er.
Lkq also like any other recyclers will drain fluids and usually pull filter. Then they attach a tag that says the transfer has no fluid to let the installer know they need to do a filter and fluid which issue standard procedure if using a scrap yard transfer.

Whoever put is still in royally buffed up and got it bolted in....overfilled so is set picked up fluid and sent it off for some one to buy
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Sucks that I got the bad end of someone else's screw up. Anyway sort of an update, got it to do 2-3 shift and the 2-1 while up on the blocks. Thinking valve body is definitely clogged up. If we didn't want to take everything apart again to clean it could we possibly run it in performance mode to up line pressure to get that junk into the filter. We planned on changing filter out within 1000 miles like someone else a few posts up recommended.

Nope. Just the fluid and an ac delco filter. Am I right in thinking that the line pressure is higher in performance shift?

it is but not a whole lot under normal driving. them trans medix products are supposed to free up clogs and stuff.

if you have a long clear tube you can siphon out a qt easy via the dip stick tube. then add the lucas or what ever brand you find/use.

Almost have it back apart. Weather has been crap so its taking forever. It seems to not have overdrive so I'm thinking two different situations.
    A) 4th gear clutch hub stripped from normal wear (could be possible as it isn't shifting into overdrive.)
    B) Normal wear has slowly clogged the valve body and nothing else is wrong.

I've been reading BillBoost's post on doing the 4th clutch hub. From what I'm seeing it won't be hard to do considering we are taking the valve body off. Anything else we could replace/do while in that deep? Buying another tranny saturday. Got lucky, supercharged engine and tranny for $300. Engine needs alternator and trans needs nothing. Car was junked and the parts have 125k miles.

Dumb question. How do I test the solenoids?
