Need some insight, ive got a 2001 gtp w\ supercharged option, and my tranny is giving issues. I have reverse,(works beautifully), but the forward gears are different. In 3-D nothing at all, it catches in 1-2, but it is sluggish and slipping, the only part i dont understand is once i reach about 30mph, i can put it into 3, then drive. It will drive like there was never an issue to begin with. I can take it up a hill and it will even downshift into 3 and climb just fine, the issue only seems to be in taking off. Any help for me

Assuming that the fluid and filter have been maintained... Your issue sounds like an issue with the forward band. You'll need a complete rebuild if that's the case.

its the forward band for sure, thats how it acts, will drive in 1 or 2, nothing in 3 or OD.

sadly its a full rebuild when you change it, its that deep inside. likely if you drop the pan you'll find a metal tab laying there, thats the busted part of the band.

Thanks for the help, considering its the heavy duty tranny, its probably going to cost a decent bit to have it rebuilt, but its probably worth it. The car only has 107k on it, and not one spot of rust, i really do appreciate your alls help

It shouldn't cost anything more for a rebuild than a non-HD tranny. The difference is just gearing and the differential.

Since you're in Ohio, you should make the short drive to Fort Wayne, Indiana and let triple edge hook you up with one of their transmissions. They make the strongest transmissions for high performance builds and make great regular street transmissions too.

Dgrim, if your curious as to why it works fine in 3 or D once youve reached a high enough speed its because third gear and over drive dont rely on the rear sun drum being held from rotating backwards. Thus it would act fine until you were slow enough to go down to second.

Not that anybody probably cares but I figured id mention it anyways lol.
