So I have a decently mod'd 2000 Grand Prix and the tranny shifts well nice firm shifts I have been debating on doing a shift kit ZZP had recommend it to me to prolong the tranny life with my mods my question is, is it worth doing? If so what's the best one to use? Anyou advice is much appreciated!

Second on Transgo, but if it already has nice firm shifts you will not notice anything and likely something has already been done as they are not know for firm shifts from the factory.

Okay my pcm is tuned and the line pressure is increased which helped alot. Is the transgo kit pretty self explanatory? I read into zzp's kit and it looks like they over charge you for some nylon shims? The transgo looks like it comes with the springs and stuff are they stiffer? How much transmission fluid is needed to fill it back up? A gallon? What brand filter do you guys use?

Not much harder than stock in my opinion. I have done 3 , results were all the same. Not much of a performance mod at all.

Oh so what's the reason people do these then? I have other people telling me to do it then your telling me there's not much of a difference....

Don't know. I never bought a transgo kit. I don't think most of the replies are people who bought and compared kits lmao

Install what comes in the kit and that's it, nothing more needs to be done.

8 quarts of fluid and this topic has been beat to death 20 times over.

I had a ZZP and switched to a trans go kit recently. The bushing(s) that ZZP mushroomed out on me causing some HARD shifts. Like knock a filling loose hard. The trans go is on now in and shifts are great.

Did you notice a difference? Is there like shims in the transgo kit? Or are the springs just stiffer and no shims?

A solid built trans with the correct mods to valve body and other various parts you won't need one or notice.
You can increase the shift feel without upping the pressure.
The intense kit had everything you need minus the fluid.
I personally notice it at wide open shifts It's bit harder.

Okay thanks for the info my trans is stock do you think since I have the line pressure upped that I shouldn't do the shift kit to? I have zzp's 1.0 pcm and tune I dont know how much they up it but it made a huge difference. The only thing I did was have the tranny flushed with synthetic at my local gm dealership when I first got the car at about 100,000 miles I've had the car for about 5 years and it has 120,000 on it now i did a top swap so it has 3.29 gears. The motor is fresh with only 5,000 miles on it since complete rebuild the major mods are in my signature.

The reason for the shift kit is to help prevent the long shift/max adapt code that is a problem for these cars. The description of that should be said in the instructions and details for the kit. It's not the end all be all fix but doing this shift kit is cheap insurance and could help anyone along the way.

Overall it helps with shift speed/pressure aswell because of the spring changes. I upped my line pressure by 10% and had a shift kit, didn't bother me any. I also had shift times faster than stock aswell.

Okay good to know will the code cause a check engine light to come on? Do you have any idea how much zzp upped my line pressure? Is 10% you did alot for something like this? I'm not trying to argue or anything I just don't know alot about trannys I do know I have way to much power for my tranny but I don't drive like an idiot and I baby the car occasionally hammering on it. It's a summer car its been painted and just everything it sure doesn't look 16 years old lol.

I believe the max line pressure is 94 psi but i could be wrong. ZZP likes to keep the line pressure pretty high.
