So could doing a shift kit possibly hurt or not be good for the tranny with a zzp tune? That's basically what I was wondering if I can help it out a little without a rebuild and better parts I will but if it's not worth it I'll leave it alone.

I modified my ZZP tune but didnt change the trans tables when i added my shift kit. Its fine so far. Although i may have to add a little pressure on the 2-3 shift down low. Results may vary though.

Okay good to know. In the transgo kit are there options like the different size zzp shims? Or is it just change the springs and what the kit is is what you got? Do you recommend any brand of tranny filter or it doesn't matter? I'm debating on sticking with delco tranny fluid since that's what's in there and it's fairly new.

The transgo kit is a single option kit which firms up the shifts and fixes what should have been done from the factory.

I went with a ACDelco filter.

Id change the fluid with new fluid. Just my opinion though.

Okay thanks man. I'm going to change the fluid that's no question what I meant was I'm debating on using delco fluid or just something decent at the parts store. What did you use?

I use a wix filter from napa, ac delco stuff is made in china I bet just like their oil filters.

Dexron 3 is my fluid of choice, it's cheaper than dexron 6.

Do you use just the regular 220 green scotch brite pads? Seems weird to me you want to scratch the bore.

I'm using the Intence kit with dex6 and an Overkill tune. I'd definatly buy the Intence kit again, very detailed instructions and included absolutely everything I needed except the fluid.

The cylinders in your engine were "scratched up" from the factory in the form of cross hatching. It helps to the retain oil. It's common to do this and only takes a second you're not going to be in there a long time just scuff and move on. This is also X common on wheel cylinders back when most people rebuilt them instead of buying new.

Running both a tune and shift kit without upgraded trans hard parts is a great way to break something. There is a lot of 13 second cars that break transmissions because they are shifting too damn hard.

If it shifts well the way it is, I'd leave it be. I had very little done to the trans and tune when I was running 11's.

Better yet, get yourself a tuner and learn how to do it yourself. I like adjusting shift firmness through the tune much better. If you add a little more power, you can keep them just firm enough to prevent slipping too much between shifts, but not too firm as to break stuff.

So many guys snap the input shaft on the 1-2 shift with a tune and shift kit.

You don't need hard shifts. It's not a th400. And it will literally make you almost no quicker in the 1/4 mile.
