So I blew my tranny up. Too much torque the doctor said... The car is an 02 GTP with the 3.8L Supercharged beast purring under the hood. I was exercising my right to a rolling stop followed by a quick right and a launch when the torque steer hit, the engine roared, and the tach redlined. As I gripped the seat and waited for the shift, I started to realize it was taking too long. Suddenly the thunking started and the ol' girl lost power. After the autopsy on the tranny (The 4t65e-hd) I learned that I snapped the shaft of the input drum. Finding a replacement has been a nightmare as no one has one with under 300'000 on it and the casing of mine broke during removal. Here is the real question though,

I have recently seen on other sites that the 4t80e was more of a powerhorse transmission and could take being beaten a little harder. Does anyone know if it would be compatible with the car??
    Thanks

the 80's not worth it really.

you could look for a na tranny and get a canned tune to cover the gear change.

98 Buick Regal GS, F body brakes, Caddy STS wheels, tinted tails L36 bottom end, lightly ported heads, 1.95 roller rockers, headers, gen 5 N* 3.0 pulley, FSIC, 42 lb injectors, a BrandonHall rebuilt trans, DHP tuned and AEM water/Meth injection https://goo.gl/gpV5kW

If you're wanting a trans that'll handle power, shoot Dave at Triple Edge Performance an email. It'll cost you a bit more, but a TEP trans will last longer than the car and hold up to anything a stock or mildly modded engine will put out.
