I believe it hasn't been done on an 04+ yet. The only difference would probably be the aluminum subframe not having mount holes for the 284. It was recently done to a 2000 Impala over on NAIOA: http://www.naioa.com/v2/modules.php?...wtopic&t=47570
Somebody with a 3rd gen, time, cash, and will, needs to step up to the plate for all of us dreamers. Please?
The F40 requires a lot of custom stuff...the 284 could be done with a steel subframe. I just did my 284 swap...it's a lot of work. Especially when the trans is toast and I need to find another one.
Once my bank account says I can, I plan to be the first one to do it. Either a Getrag 284 or F40, whichever is easier to obtain. Im banking around $6,500 for a shop to do it. You all think that sounds about right?
With the amount of fab needed, that'll cover the fab work.
Well if you buy the f40 swap on here then you'd have quite a bit towards labor. It isn't cheap and expect the car to be down awhile.
So its easier to swap a 284 than an F40?
Neither really. The 284 is elusive...I know I'm trying to find one to replace mine now (for a decent price.) The F40 may be easier to source. Also, the amount of fab I have into my setup is ludicrous.
Sweet lord.....I feel like no shop that doesnt charge at least $200 per hour would have no clue what to do
It's all trial and error stuff. Check out my build thread in the Member's Rides section. Look for the IncREDihoopdy 5 speed build.
