Spark plugs are iridium (read, expensive and a waste of money). The original wires are probably along the lines of AC Delco.
You do not want to put original type spark plugs in the car anyway, the cars are prone to KR in stock form as it is. Do yourself a favor and get one step colder on the plugs.
Ok. So what should I go with for spark plugs? And should the gap stay at .060" with a different plug? Just curious about the tires.
Tires should be whatever you feel comfortable running...but most of the time the factory tire size is 225/60/R16.
As for plugs...old motor technology...use old spark plugs. Autolite 606's gapped @ .055".
Done. For wires...get Duralast Lifetime warranty ones from AutoZone,
AL 606's are one step colder, correct? I've got AL 104's and I know those are 2 steps colder.
No, AL606's are stock equivalent...605's are just a tad cooler.
Good information, thanks. I was thinking the same thing. Having to change them more often, as hard as the back ones are to get to, doesn't look fun. But I will take your advice and go with the Autolites. So, the concensus is AL 606 @ .055"?
The only plugs autozone and O'Reillys list are the irridium plugs. I googled and found there are different plugs, traditional, flat pack, copper-core. What should I ask for?
Yeah, don't tell them what it's for, just say you need 6 autolite 606 copper plugs.
Ok, so I have an 05 GTP, 80k miles, probably a good idea to change them by now... What do you guys recommend I put in there? I'm new to the whole boost stuff... I've got lots of experience in N/A... Are the NGK TR55's cooler then my stockers? Or should I go TR6's? Or should I stay away from NGK's with boost? I'm running NGK TR55's in my Vette N/A.
I ran tr6's in mine, I liked the plug. I got Less misfires at idle then with the autolight 103s, but alittle bit more KR. If your stock NGK TR55: 1 Heat Range Cooler. TR6=2 colder. Not sure of the stock heat range NGK plug, But there fine to run on boosted car Ls1freek
50K miles+. There Iriduim
"TR6" is copper.
"TR6IX" is iridium.
"TR6GP" is platinum.
see the trend yet?
In the TR55, the first five is the heat range, the second one indicates its pre-gapped to .059".
Never trust this as plugs ARE dropped between the manufacturer and your local store.
NGK claims the 5 heat range is stock for our cars.
T means its a 14 MM reach and the R means it has a resistor.
